Before, During and After Sleep Dentistry
You must not eat or drink for 8 hours before treatment, and a companion is required to take you to and from the dental office. Dr. Chow, a Registered Nurse or our certified Dental Assistant will be with you at all times. You will be closely monitored throughout the entire appointment.
At Belleville Sleep Dentistry, safety comes first!
Patients are encouraged to wear short sleeve shirts, loose, comfortable clothing and shoes that can easily be removed to ensure total relaxation. Upon lying down in the dental chair, an assistant will bring blankets to wrap around you so you feel comfortable and warm.
Once you are asleep, Dr. Chow will do a thorough examination and possibly take xrays to confirm required treatment.
After the dental treatment is complete, many patients begin to feel more alert soon after the IV medication is stopped. There is no set amount of recovery time because every patient is different. However, most people feel essentially normal after about 8 hours.
You should rest at home in the company of a responsible adult for the following 24 hours. Patients are encouraged to sleep and drink plenty of water and clear fluids for the remainder of the day.
In most cases, patients are able to return to normal activities the next day.; however, you should not drive or operate heavy machinery for at least 24 hours after the end of your appointment.
In regards to recovery from the actual dental work itself, Dr. Chow will give you individualized instructions for aftercare.
